The Legend of SM Sultan
Born in Masumdia, Narail in 1923, Sultan led an extraordinary life that became as legendary as his art.
Despite coming from a humble background, his talent was recognized early, leading him to study at the Calcutta Art School.
He traveled extensively through India, Pakistan, Europe, and America, exhibiting his works and gaining international recognition.
Yet, he always returned to his beloved Narail, choosing to live simply among the farmers and fishermen who became the subjects of his monumental canvases.
His deep connection with the Chitra River and its people is evident in many of his masterpieces.
